In Memoriam Willard Warren

Willard Warren
Principal
Willard L. Warren Associates, Lighting and Energy Consultants
71st NYC Section President 1978–79
Willard “Bill” Warren was a brilliant mind, a devoted family man, and a lighting industry legend who passed away in April 2025 at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Brooklyn and a lifelong New Yorker, Bill earned his electrical engineering degree from The Cooper Union in 1950 and never stopped building – ideas, systems, and communities. His impact on lighting in New York City is everywhere: from the original lighting systems at Louis Armstrong Stadium to the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. He brought light – literally and figuratively – to the city he loved.
A 71-year member of the IES, Bill served as the 71st NYC Section President 1978–79 and received our IESNYC Section Brilliance Award in 2013. He was honored with the IES Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
He was a mentor, a leader, and a tireless advocate for excellence in lighting.
