Incoming President Message 2026

Zachary Pearson
Designer, Fisher Marantz Stone
IESNYC President, 2026–27

As we begin a New Year filled with endless possibilities, many of us personally resolve to make ourselves the best that we can be. This is a time to reflect on the larger picture of our lighting community as well and to view the opportunities for how we can strive to make it even better.

Turning vision into reality requires collaboration across disciplines—from designers and engineers to manufacturers, distributors, representatives, and integrators. Building bridges between these groups keeps our community agile and adaptable, and it begins with listening. I’m proud to share that our leadership board includes representatives from all these disciplines, ensuring diverse perspectives guide our decisions.

To keep an organization not only viable, but innovative, and optimistic requires the wisdom, perspectives, and experience of steadfast members as well as infusions of fresh ideas and vision from incoming generations (be they newly graduated individuals or those joining as a career transition). As we resolve to continue to move forward by mentoring, networking, and working together, our community will be better able to successfully acculturate to all that the future may hold.

At our core, the IESNYC membership is responsible for creating some of the most brilliant and exciting architectural, theatrical and entertainment lighting seen around the world. New York City’s visibility and cultural energy give the Section a unique position within the larger Society and we will continue to lead by example.

WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

I am humbly honored to begin my term as President of the IESNYC, an organization that holds a special place in my heart. My own journey with the IESNYC began in 2018, when I was nominated for the Merit Scholarship while attending the Lighting Research Center in Troy, NY. That award not only provided me with the opportunity to attend lighting festivals in Europe, Canada, and the US. for my thesis, but also introduced me to the remarkable members who mentored and encouraged me. Consequently, I supported the Merit Scholarship Committee, became a member of the Board of Managers, and developed the NextGen program to engage students and emerging professionals. These treasured relationships and leadership opportunities led me to this pivotal role.

My commitment is to keep the IESNYC a space where both longstanding members and newcomers feel seen, supported, and connected. I encourage everyone to make us a stronger, more impactful organization by volunteering and participating in events and seminars, as well as actively seeking out new voices to include in our fellowship. I invite you to share your ideas as we shape the future of the IESNYC. Together, we will ensure a thriving and influential Section for decades to come.
