Prepare for the LC Exam with the
IES LC Study Group
The IES LC Study Group is designed for those planning to take the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) Lighting Certification exam. This 10-week online Study Group is an interactive approach to preparing to write the exam. Candidates will develop a competency-focused prioritized study plan through expert facilitation.
The all-virtual LC Study Group is delivered by a team of qualified individuals from the Lighting Agora, led by Gerry Cornwell, LC and including instructors Dan Blitzer, LC, Dan Hadash, LC, Tom Butters, LC, Shirley Coyle, LC, Mary Beth Gotti, LC, and Mark Roush, LC.
All sessions are online (Zoom meetings) and from 7 to 9 pm US Eastern Time Zone.
Duration: 90-120 minutes per session + minimum 120 minutes of homework per week

Week 2, August 11: Lighting Science and Technology
Week 3, August 18: Upgrading, Visual Comfort, Design Process
Week 4, August 25: Interior Applications, NFPA 101, NFPA 70
Week 5, September 1: Exterior Applications, Light Trespass
Week 6, September 8: Standard 90.1, LEED, Exam Overview
Week 7, Sept. 15 and 17: Luminaires & Photometry
Week 8, Sept 22 and 24: Calculations, Target Illuminance
Week 9, Sept 29 and Oct 1: Daylighting, Controls Part 1
Week 10, Oct 6 and 8: Controls Part 2, Economics
Finish October 9: Review, Open Q&A Session
The LC Exam is offered from October 12 through November 20 at test centers. Registration application for the LC exam is required by September 11.
