In Memoriam: Lou Bell

Lou Bell began working at Lightolier in the 1960s and joined Stan Deutsch Associates (now SDA Lighting & Controls) in 1973. He was a salesman at SDA for 40 years, and became a partner. The NYC School Construction Authority was among his loyal clientele. His vanity license plate showed his pride: I LIGHT NY. After parting with SDA, Lou continued working part-time with various agencies and established the eponymous LOU (Lighting Options Unlimited). He graduated from the NYU Stern School of Business in 1963.

Born in 1942, Louis A. Bell was married to his beloved Michelle Bell, until she passed away in 2013.  He is survived by David Bell (and Melissa), Jonathan Bell (and Natalie), and Suzanne (and David) Seltzer, along with numerous grandchildren.

He was the nephew of the Bielski brothers: four Jewish brothers who established a partisan camp in the forests of Belarus during World War II, saving 1,200 Jews from the Nazis. The movie Defiance chronicles their story.

Lou was a devoted family man and dedicated professional. He will be missed by the lighting community.
