Welcome to the New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society
We are a volunteer professional membership organization comprised of individuals who share a mutual appreciation for and fascination with all things lighting. We are dedicated to promoting both the art and science of illumination to our members, to other professional organizations, to the industry, and to the public through inspiring events, informative programs, educational series, and great networking opportunities.

The IESNYC selected two winners — Evan Wilson, who will receive an MSc in Lighting from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Marta Casarin, who will earn her MFA in Lighting Design at Parsons New School of Design — for the second annual IESNYC Scholarship. Read More >

Winners of the 2017 Student Lighting Competition

On March 7, the IESNYC awarded the Student Lighting Competition Grand Prize to Marta Casarin (a 2017 recipient of the IESNYC Scholarship), Joanna Fuller, and Shashank Singal, for their project “Passage.” The team members are enrolled in Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design at Parsons The New School of Design and received a cash award of $2,000. This year's theme, ‘Light, Scaled’ challenged students to construct a three-dimensional study that explores the scale of light and its impact on perception.

Flo Peters “Sonder,” and Chang Sung Lee’s “Depth Perception,” both attending Pratt Institute, won Second and Third Prize respectively and each will receive cash awards of $1,000 and $500. In addition, five Honorable Mentions were awarded.

Architectural engineer and OVI Principal, Enrique Peiniger delivered the evening’s keynote address on the Lighting Powers of 10. Read More >
