Join the IESNYC NYC Lighting Council and AIANY Building Code Committee for an overview and panel discussion on the new 2025 NYC Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC), focusing on what’s changed for lighting since the 2020 code.  What's new, and what revisions mean for design, documentation, and compliance in NYC installations.

Melissa L. Goren, LC, CLD, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, IALD
Associate Principal, MGE Lighting Design Collaborative 
Goren brings over two decades of experience leading lighting design for a wide range of project types, including commercial interiors, hospitality environments, residential developments, educational facilities, healthcare campuses, and life science laboratories. As Associate Principal of MGE Lighting Design Collaborative, Melissa leads the delivery of lighting solutions that thoughtfully integrate aesthetics, performance, and sustainability. Her approach is rooted in both design and technical precision; balancing artistic vision with functional requirements, energy efficiency, and code compliance.

Goren is Lighting Certified, a Professional Engineer in the state of New York and a LEED AP BD+C Accredited Professional. Melissa is a member of the IESNYC Board of Managers, member of IALD Energy + Sustainability Committee, and the IES LP–6 Lighting Control Systems Committee.

Lee Brandt, IALD, MIES, CLD, LC
Senior Principal, HLB Lighting
During Lee’s tenure at HLB, she has worked on projects of various sizes in diverse market sectors, and helps manage the NYC office. As Senior Principal and one of the firm’s partners, she strategically focuses firmwide on people, team, and culture.  Over the course of 26 years, she has enjoyed seeing the firm grow to nine offices and over 150 people. In addition to her work on the IESNYC’s Energy Code Advisory Committee, she is active in the IALD’s Energy + Sustainability Committee and locally in the , DLFNY, and WILD NYC.  

About the NYC Lighting Council Committee
The NYC Lighting Council (NYCLC) is a committee within the IESNYC, and serves as an information source and advocate for issues involving the use of lighting in and about the New York Cityscape. The NYCLC provides web-based resources (Lighting311.org) for the public, and serves as a forum and reference for lighting professionals.

About the AIANY Building Code Committee
The AIANY Building Codes Committee is committed to educating our members on the ever changing construction code landscape for building in New York City. This entails presentations by various city and sometimes state agencies, with the occasional multi-agency discussion. There are also meetings with the private sector to discuss recent trends. We concern ourselves with not just the current code, but discuss potential procedural as well as technical changes and ways to make construction safer and the process smoother.
